Sharpe's Fury
(August 2006)
The Sharpe series of books are written by Bernard Cornwell, and since 1981 there have been 23 books published, along with 15 feature-length TV films. This wiki is intended to create an index to both the books and the films, recording events, characters, locations, military units, items of interest and a glossary of other names, as well as anything else, fictional and non-fictional, in the Sharpe universe.
The Sharpe Books
Richard Sharpe starts his literary career as Private Sharpe in Seringapatam, India, and the series of books follows his military career from India through the Napoleonic wars, the Peninsular War in Portugal to the Battle of Waterloo, as well as through other major events between 1799 and 1821. Promoted from the ranks by Arthur Wellesley, later Duke of Wellington, for his bravery in India, his military career runs in parallel with Wellington's, and as he fights his way through many adventures he is promoted up to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. With Patrick Harper at his side and his Baker Rifle and Sword in his hands, the books chronicle a series of battles, encounters and events against a wide range of enemies, both foreign and English (such as Sergeant Obadiah Hakeswill and the French Major Pierre Ducos), as well as his unfortunate choice of wives and lovers.
